For several days now, Sweden has been ravaged by fires. Last Thursday, three water-bombing aircraft – including two Canadairs and one Beech 200 – were deployed by the Civil Protection Agency.

Since then, the situation has remained out of control. These fires are being fuelled by the unusual drought affecting the region. Faced with the severity of these forest fires, Stockholm has requested assistance from the European Union via the European Civil Protection Mechanism, due to a lack of human and material resources.

A detachment sent as reinforcements

According to our information, confirmed by an official tweet from the French Civil Protection Agency, from tomorrow morning, a detachment comprising 50 per cent firefighters from the south of France and 50 per cent rescue workers from the Civil Protection’s training and response units (UIISC) will be deployed to the scene.

The detachment’s deployment is expected to last between 7 and 15 days.
