Greece has now been hit too.

Since Monday, Greek firefighters have been engaged in a fierce battle against a forest fire raging 55 km west of Athens and threatening residential areas. Fanned by strong winds, with gusts of over 60 km/h, the fire has spread along the coast, threatening holiday homes and leading to the evacuation of a village, Greek authorities said. Meanwhile, a heatwave has pushed temperatures up to around 40 degrees Celsius. The weather services were forecasting a lull in the winds from overnight. By early evening, some 300 firefighters had been deployed across the various fronts, all of which were active “in residential areas”, assisted until nightfall by eight aircraft and nine helicopters, explained the fire brigade unit.
