Large-scale forest fires are currently ravaging Greece in the vicinity of the capital, Athens. Several towns situated near the Mediterranean are still engulfed by the flames, where many homes have been destroyed. The latest death toll released by the authorities stands at at least 20 dead and more than 100 injured. Evacuations by ship from the sea are being organised to get people to safety. The country has just declared a state of absolute emergency and has requested reinforcements from the European Union.
