In Greece, the death toll from the devastating fires ravaging the area around Athens has risen. The latest figure from the fire service, which puts the death toll at 74, is not yet final. Around a hundred rescue workers are still searching for victims in the seaside resort area on the east coast of Attica, which was engulfed in flames on Monday evening, reports AFP. At least five people also died at sea whilst trying to flee the flames. Identifying the victims is expected to be a lengthy process, as the area is also popular with foreign tourists. Given the scale of the disaster, a state of emergency has been declared in the Attica region; the army and coastguard are on alert, whilst firefighters continue to battle the flames. Athens has appealed to its European partners for help. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has described the situation as “very difficult”. “I have been informed of a very difficult situation in Attica”, the region around Athens, “with three fire fronts; all resources have been mobilised to tackle them,” said Alexis Tsipras in a televised address from Mostar, Bosnia, where he had just begun a visit.Here are the safety instructions for l'The French Embassy in Greece ==>' HERE
