Paris firefighters attacked: one dead, one seriously injured

INFO EMERGENCY INFORMATION. According to our information, two Parisian firefighters were attacked with a knife by a man suffering from schizophrenia during an emergency call-out on Tuesday afternoon in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, 20 kilometres south of Paris. Both victims are in a state of “absolute emergency”. One of them is in a life-threatening condition. At 10.20 pm, it was reported that the firefighter had died.

The firefighter, a first-class firefighter, was 27 years old. His colleague is a 44-year-old sergeant. His condition is no longer life-threatening.

In a tweet posted this evening, Michel Delpuech, the Paris Police Prefect, expressed his deep sadness following the death of a firefighter and the serious injuries sustained today by another member of the @PompiersParis during an emergency call-out. He assured their families and their comrades of his full support. A SAMU helicopter was dispatched to the scene. The perpetrator was arrested by the police. He is a mentally unstable individual who was in the throes of a crisis when the fire service ambulance arrived.
