Marseille: two off-duty police officers shot and wounded

It all happened at around 5 o’clock this morning at Place Albert-Londres, in La Joliette, in Marseille’s 3rd arrondissement. A violent brawl broke out between two brothers and a third man, according to the daily newspaper Provence. The two brothers, aged 26 and 37, are police officers – the first in Paris, the second in Marseille. During the brawl, the third man pulled out a firearm and fired three shots, wounding the two off-duty officers. The police officer based in Paris was seriously wounded in the chest and arm. However, his condition is no longer thought to be life-threatening. His brother sustained a minor injury to his thigh. The shooter used a pellet gun and managed to flee the scene. Neither of the police officers was armed, and one of them is said to have shown his police ID to the shooter before he opened fire. The Marseille SRPJ is leading the investigation.
