Tonight in Paris: seven pedestrians stabbed
Last-minute news. Seven pedestrians were stabbed on Sunday at around 10.45 pm on the banks of the Canal de l’Ourcq, not far from the Quai de la Loire, in Paris’s 19th arrondissement.
Initial reports indicate that four people are in a critical condition and three others have suffered less serious injuries, including a couple of British tourists.
The Paris Fire Brigade, along with doctors and SAMU teams, have been mobilised to assist the victims.
Witnesses detained the attacker until officers from the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) arrived and arrested him. The suspect is an adult of Afghan nationality. He sustained a head injury when a pétanque player threw a ball at him after witnessing the attacks.
At this stage, a terrorist attack has been ruled out.
