Firefighters are on all fronts, coming to the public’s aid. From road accidents to fires, not to mention minor injuries, they are called upon at all hours. But often, they turn out to find there is nothing to do. Most of the time, after receiving a call, there is no one left at the scene by the time they arrive.
Every year, more than a million emergency calls are handled, and 10 to 15 per cent are deemed to be false alarms. The Paris Fire Brigade receives more than 120,000 of these. Despite screening, some still slip through.
Over the next few days, an awareness campaign will be launched on social media to highlight these bizarre phone calls.
