A 37-year-old volunteer firefighter, Corporal Frédéric Thomas, died early on Thursday morning whilst on duty, after his car left the road between Pont-d’Ain and Neuville-sur-Ain, as he was travelling to the fire station in Bourg-en-Bresse to assist with an emergency call-out. He had been paged to provide backup for firefighters responding to a house fire. On the way, he lost control of his car. He was in cardiac arrest when the Samu 01 ambulance arrived and could not be resuscitated. A volunteer firefighter for 20 years, Corporal Frédéric Thomas was the father of two children. Flags have been flown at half-mast at the Bourg-en-Bresse fire station. The FNSPF, the MNSPF and the ODP extend their condolences to the firefighters of the Ain department. He is the tenth firefighter to have died whilst on duty in France since the start of the year.
