Rhône: SDMIS firefighters are on strike
On Tuesday, more than 350 striking professional firefighters demonstrated in Lyon to voice their frustration at staff shortages, increased working hours and low pay.
They are calling for staffing levels to be aligned with operational needs; at present, they are insufficient in relation to daily operational capacity.
They are also calling for a pre-defined 12-hour shift pattern. They further argue that it is unfair that their pay is lower than that of their colleagues in several other departments, given that they perform the same job.
The Prefect responsible for security is due to meet with the trade unions on Wednesday 28 November at 10.00 am.
A delegation was already received on Tuesday by the management of the Departmental and Metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service.
