The night between Saturday and Sunday was a hectic one for firefighters in the Nord department (59). At two separate locations, in Douai and Abscon, emergency services personnel were subjected to physical or verbal abuse whilst on call.
On Saturday evening, a fire service ambulance was called out to a domestic incident in the town of Douai. On arrival, the victim threatened the SDIS 59 crew with a knife, before attempting to throw himself out of a second-floor window. The crew announced that they would be filing a complaint for assault.
Just two hours later, another medical emergency at a private residence required the fire brigade to be called out. Once at the scene, another crew was subjected to verbal abuse and had objects thrown at their ambulance. The officers announced that they would be filing a complaint for anti-social behaviour.
