Strasbourg: the suspect in the attack shot dead by the police

At around 9.00 pm this evening, the police tracked down the terrorist Chérif Chekatt, who had been on the run for 48 hours. Officers from the specialist field unit were forced to use their firearms to neutralise the suspect, who had opened fire. He was shot dead on Rue du Lazaret (in the Neudorf district). Christophe Castaner, the Home Secretary, and Roland Ries, the mayor of Strasbourg, addressed the media. They praised the police for the work they had carried out over the past 48 hours.
