Montpellier: two police officers act as midwives for Eliott!

It’s a heart-warming story in this harsh world: on Thursday, at around 6 am, Claire, who was eight and a half months pregnant, felt her first contractions in her flat in the Montpellier area. At around 8 am, her partner Simon drove her to the Lapeyronie University Hospital in Montpellier. The labour intensified whilst they were stuck in traffic. The pain and contractions were getting stronger and stronger, and the car wasn’t moving. Two officers from the Pyrénées-Orientales gendarmerie, on duty in Montpellier, were also stuck in the traffic jam. Simon then informed them of the situation and asked if they could escort them to the maternity ward, as the baby was due any moment. The gendarmes cleared a path for them through the traffic right up to the entrance to the gynaecology department. One of the officers took charge of alerting the medical staff, whilst the other assisted the expectant mother. In fact, the baby, in such a hurry to arrive, didn’t wait for the medical staff to arrive, and it was the policewoman alone who delivered Claire’s baby, with the help of the father. Eliott and his mum were then looked after by the medical staff. The gendarmes returned to see them a few hours later and a photo was taken to capture the moment. Eliott and his mum are both doing very well. The little family expressed their heartfelt thanks to the gendarmes for their help.
