The Home Secretary announces the objectives of the security forces that will be deployed tonight
The Minister for the Interior, Christophe Castaner, spoke from the Rousseau fire station in Paris.
He praised “the exceptional commitment shown today by our security forces, numbering nearly 148,000 people: police officers, military personnel, gendarmes, firefighters, professional firefighters, volunteer firefighters, but I am also thinking of the accredited civil protection organisations” who will be on duty this evening “to ensure the safety of our fellow citizens”.
The minister announced three objectives:
“Firstly, the fight against this ever-present scourge, which is the terrorist threat; the terrorist threat remains high in France, as we saw in Strasbourg a few days ago … This is the top priority.”
“The second requirement I have set for our security forces is to take action against urban violence … which has, for many years now, become a completely idiotic, senseless and malicious tradition: the burning of cars and the destruction of public property.”
"The third objective is the fight against self-inflicted violence caused by alcohol."
