- never attempt to clear a blockage;
- position the victim in the position in which they feel most comfortable;
- encourage coughing*;
- administer oxygen by inhalation, if necessary;
- submit a medical report for a medical assessment;
- Carefully monitor the victim’s breathing.
If the obstruction becomes severe or if breathing stops, follow the procedure for a severe obstruction.
*Encouraging the person to cough helps to expel the foreign body.
