The victim is conscious
If the patient is bleeding externally, follow the appropriate procedure. If this is not the case, or once the bleeding has been stopped:
- lay the victim down in a horizontal position9;
- administer oxygen by inhalation if necessary; if a pulse oximeter is not available, administer oxygen by inhalation and adjust the dosage following the doctor’s advice;
- cover the victim and avoid leaving them directly on the floor to minimise the risk of them getting cold;
- complete the critical emergency assessment, if necessary;
- carry out a further assessment to look for any other signs or injuries and provide the necessary first aid;
- seek medical advice by forwarding the test results;
- Monitor the victim, paying particular attention to their pulse, heart rate and level of consciousness.
