To address this risk2, the following measures should be taken:
- evacuate everyone from the room in question and gather them together;
- ventilate the room(s) thoroughly; In this case, the responder enters the room whilst holding their breath.
- Alert the fire brigade immediately; they are equipped, in particular, with detectors for this gas
- whilst waiting for the emergency services, look for or identify any appliance that might produce CO (a brazier, an internal combustion engine, car exhaust fumes in an enclosed space, a chimney, a water heater, etc.);
- stop the appliance from operating;
- wait for the emergency services.
