To address this risk, the following measures should be taken:
- Ensure that the victim is not in direct or indirect contact (water, metal surfaces, etc.) with any electrical equipment or cables (electrical wires, live household appliances, high-voltage cables, etc.); if this is the case, immediately move anyone present away from the scene and instruct them not to touch the victim.
- If the victim is in contact with an electrical appliance, switch off the power (at the circuit breaker) or unplug the appliance in question; do not approach or touch the victim until you are certain that the power has been switched off1.
- If you see a low- or high-voltage electrical cable on the ground, do not approach it and wait for specialist teams to arrive;
Materials such as damp wood or clothing offer no protection against electric current.
