LIVE. Former boxer Christophe Dettinger, who was filmed assaulting officers of the National Gendarmerie on Saturday, was remanded in custody on Wednesday evening by the criminal court. The trial has been adjourned until 13 February.
The court upheld the public prosecutor’s submissions, finding that there was a risk of reoffending given his determination. The adjournment, which is a right under the summary trial procedure, will give Christophe Dettinger’s lawyers time to prepare his defence.
This man, originally from Essonne and the former French light-heavyweight champion in 2007 and 2008, turned himself in to the police on Monday morning; they had been actively searching for him since the incident.
Two police officers have filed a complaint
In footage widely shared on social media and broadcast on television, a gendarme can be seen lying on the ground, surrounded by protesters and being struck by one of them wearing a coat and a black hat. According to the same source, the gendarme was prescribed 15 days’ total incapacity for work (ITT) and filed a complaint on Sunday, according to the gendarmerie.
In another video, a man – also wearing a black coat and a black hat – can be seen attacking a police officer behind his shield with the skill of a professional boxer. The officer was signed off work for two days and has also filed a complaint.
