LIVE. A Mirage 2000 fighter jet disappeared from radar screens on Wednesday shortly before midday. According to our colleagues at the Progress, the first pieces of debris, along with a parachute, were found on the hills above Mignovillard, on a forest track on the border between the Doubs and the Jura.
The theory that there has been a crash therefore appears to be gaining credence, particularly as several witnesses have confirmed hearing an explosion. A command centre has been set up.
Two pilots on board
A helicopter is currently circling the area. The police are equipped with a device capable of locating a distress beacon. The search is being hampered by the snow.
As part of the activation of the air-ground emergency plan, police officers from the Jura and Doubs departments are currently conducting an active search to locate the two soldiers who were piloting the aircraft.
