The Association for the Development of the Social Welfare Work of the Paris Fire Brigade (the ADOSP), has just launched an online fundraising campaign to support the families of the two soldiers who died yesterday morning in a tragic explosion. How did the procedure go?
On Saturday 12 January at around 8.40 am, the Brigade’s emergency services were called out following reports of a smell of gas on the upper floors of a residential block at 6 Rue de Trévise in Paris’s 9th arrondissement. About 10 minutes after they arrived on the scene, a very violent explosion occurred, followed by a fire.
Our two comrades, Master Corporal Simon CARTANNAZ and Private First Class Nathanaël JOSSELIN, were seriously injured. They were evacuated whilst in cardiac arrest and, despite the prompt medical attention they received, they sadly did not survive their injuries.
Who were the two firefighters who died?
Born on 29 July 1990 in Chambéry (73), Senior Corporal Simon CARTANNAZ joined the Paris Fire Brigade on 6 August 2013. He is also a volunteer firefighter in Chambéry. He serves in the 8th Company at the Château-d’Eau fire station.
In 2016, he was awarded a Medal for Acts of Courage and Dedication (ACD) in bronze and a Medal for Internal Security (MSI) in bronze. He was single and had no children.
Born on 17 February 1991 in Migennes (89), Firefighter First Class Nathanaël JOSSELIN joined the Paris Fire Brigade on 7 October 2014. He is also a volunteer firefighter in Brienon (89). He serves in the 8th Company at the Château-d’Eau fire station.
In 2016, he was awarded the Medal for Internal Security (MSI), bronze class. He was in a civil partnership and the father of a three-year-old boy.
The Paris Fire Brigade expresses its deep sadness at this tragedy. It shares in the grief of the families, their loved ones and the staff at the Château-d’Eau rescue centre of the 8th Fire and Rescue Company, and extends its most sincere condolences to them.
