The incident took place on Saturday morning shortly before 11 am, in a car park at the Part-Dieu shopping centre in Lyon. A man set fire to his car, into which he had previously placed three gas cylinders, before contacting the police.
According to our information, around sixty firefighters from the SDMIS came to the scene to put out the vehicle fire, which had been deliberately set by its owner. The owner was arrested and taken into custody by the criminal investigation department without offering any resistance.
His motives remain unknown
Police officers quickly established a wide public safety cordon, necessitating the closure of the shopping centre.
According to an account gathered by our colleagues at the Progress, the staff at the Go Sport shop who were evacuated, explain "We evacuated the premises at 10.10 am after being alerted by a security guard to the presence of an armed man in the car park and a fire".
