For several years now, France’s wind farm capacity has been growing steadily. Given the complex nature of these installations, they now give rise to specialised rescue operations.

Whether it’s a rescue operation involving a person or a fire, wind turbines require specialist knowledge and operational preparedness where there is no room for improvisation.

The purpose of this technical guide is to outline the risks and operational procedures relating to work on wind turbines.
Drawing on the work of a group of experts from the fire and rescue services, it aims in particular to shed light on:

  • the analysis and understanding of the risks associated with the operation of wind turbines;
  • the role of stakeholders in this operational area;
  • the elements required to scale up the local operational response;
  • safety principles during operations.
