A 44-year-old man, a former driving instructor, who was travelling on the A6 motorway near Villiers-sous-Grez, ran over a gendarme after being caught driving at 198 km/h. The man, who was driving a Mini Cooper, fled the scene.
In fact, the driver was stopped and escorted to the Nemours motorway police station. Once there, with the engine switched off, the man suddenly started the engine again, before fleeing the scene and running over the soldier.
Placed in pre-trial detention
The police officer was treated by the fire brigade and then taken to hospital. He was prescribed 15 days’ total incapacity for work (ITT).
A few hours later, the reckless driver turned himself in to the Fontainebleau Criminal Investigation Unit. He had no points left on his driving licence and was already wanted in connection with other traffic offences. He has been remanded in custody pending his trial.
