The child who fell into a narrow, deep well on 13 January in southern Spain was found dead during the night between Friday and Saturday, following an exceptionally large-scale search operation that had the whole of Spain on tenterhooks, the authorities announced.
"Unfortunately, at 1.25 am, the rescue teams reached the well where they had been searching for Yulen and found the little boy’s lifeless body", said Alfonso Gomez de Celis, the Prefect of Andalusia, on Twitter, whilst presenting his "condolences" to the family. A funeral home van travelled to the scene, in the mountains of Totalan (Andalusia), to collect the child’s body.
An investigation has been launched
According to his parents, Yulen Rosello accidentally fell on Sunday 13 January into an abandoned well, 25 centimetres in diameter and over 100 metres deep, which had been dug in search of water. The child was playing on land belonging to a relative whilst his parents were having lunch nearby. According to the authorities, the well had been dug without permission.
In order to determine the exact causes of the child’s fall into this unmarked well, the parents, the landowner and the person who dug the well have been interviewed since the case began, and an investigation has been opened by a judge in Málaga, the province in which Totalan is situated.
