As we had told you last night on Secours Info, a volunteer firefighter stationed at the Béziers fire station in the Hérault department, has been suspended from duty by the management of the SDIS 34. The latter has been arrested, charged and remanded in custody, according to information from our colleagues at Metro.
He is accused of deliberately vandalising toll station No. 34 (Agde-Pézenas) on the A9 motorway, along with 46 other ‘yellow vests’. The incident took place last December. He has been clearly identified by the investigators.
He is alleged to have stolen equipment from his barracks
According to our colleagues at the Midi Libre, the Hérault Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) has joined the proceedings as a civil party. This is because the defendant is alleged to have stolen equipment belonging to his rescue centre in order to play an active part in the destruction of the toll booth.
"The SDIS has taken the necessary measures. As a first step, this volunteer firefighter has been suspended from all his duties. A committee will later decide on his future within the fire service. In the meantime, SDIS 34 has filed a complaint and is bringing a civil action in this case, as tools belonging to a senior officer were stolen.", the relevant authorities have confirmed to our colleagues.
