According to information from Emergency Information, a 54-year-old ski patroller and first-aider died in hospital on Wednesday at around 2 pm, after being buried under an avalanche at the La Plagne ski resort in Savoie.
The man in his fifties was located and rescued by his colleague after spending 11 minutes buried under the snow. He was found quickly, largely thanks to his avalanche transceiver (AVT).
A counselling service for ski patrollers
The man, who was found unconscious, was treated by a doctor before being airlifted by helicopter to Grenoble University Hospital. He died a few minutes later, after being admitted to A&E.
The department responsible for piste safety called in the SAMU’s medical and psychological support team to look after the ski patrollers, who were in a state of shock.
