A train driver has died and three passengers have been seriously injured in a collision between two regional trains on Friday evening, around 50 kilometres from Barcelona, in Catalonia, in north-eastern Spain
"A collision between two Rodalies trains" – Catalonia’s regional trains – "took place at 6.30 pm between Manresa and Sant Vicenç de Castellet, near (the town of) Castellgali", the railway company Renfe said in a statement.
The person who died in this accident was the 26-year-old driver of one of the two trains. No further information has been released this evening.
Renfe has stated that 400 passengers were on board the two trains when the accident, the cause of which is still unknown, occurred.
