70 firefighters and four water tankers from the Civil Protection service were deployed on Sunday. Firefighters from SDIS 09 are still on duty this Monday morning, as the fires have not yet been brought under control, according to our colleagues at France Bleu Occitanie.

Fires are still ravaging the vegetation this Monday morning in the Bédeilhac and Saurat areas, west of Tarascon-sur-Ariège. These fires broke out on Sunday morning and are spreading, fanned by gusts of wind.

On Sunday, 70 firefighters were deployed throughout the day to battle the flames. Four Canadair aircraft even had to be called in to provide support in the afternoon. They carried out numerous water drops, but the situation is still not under control, according to the Ariège emergency operations centre (Codis).

Please note that controlled burning is currently prohibited in Ariège. Due to the ongoing drought, it is forbidden to burn vegetation for the purpose of regeneration.
