Paris: police officer killed by a colleague

A civil servant from A police officer was killed on Sunday by a colleague at the criminal investigation department’s offices, near the courthouse in Paris’s 17th arrondissement.

The incident took place in the reception area of the famous 36 Quai des Orfèvres, the headquarters of the Paris Criminal Investigation Department.

The police officer, a security assistant (ADS), who fired his service weapon whilst handling it in front of a policewoman, has been taken into police custody.

An accident

According to a trade union source, it appears to have been an accidental discharge. The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has referred the matter to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the ‘police watchdog’.

The shooter is being questioned in police custody on suspicion of manslaughter.
