Firefighters in the Bas-Rhin have been called out on numerous occasions due to the strong winds sweeping across the department. A volunteer firefighter was injured by a vehicle that fled the scene whilst he was cutting down a tree in the town of Wintzenbach.
According to our information, which has been confirmed by our colleagues at DNA, the driver, believed to be an elderly man, is being sought by officers of the National Gendarmerie. He is reported to have crashed into the tree before fleeing the scene.
During the incident, one of the firefighters was injured. He was treated by his colleagues and then taken to hospital. Fortunately, his life is not in danger.
