METROPOLITAN NEWS. A new legal development has emerged in the investigation being conducted at the Béziers Courthouse into the Gabian tragedy, where, in August 2016, a professional firefighter with SDIS 34, Jérémy Beier, aged 24, died in the fire and three colleagues suffered burns whilst battling a violent forest fire in a wooded area on the road to Roquessels, whilst operating vehicles forming part of a forest fire response unit (GIFF).

Charged or called as witnesses?

Around ten firefighters from SDIS 34, including senior staff and officers, who were previously summoned and questioned last June by the new investigating judge, the third magistrate to examine the case in over two years of proceedings, are to be interviewed again this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. According to our information, the expert reports commissioned at the start of the investigation will be presented to the firefighters who were in command in various capacities and at various ranks on the day of the tragedy.

Will they be charged or treated as assisted witnesses? This latest legal development in this terrible tragedy is being handled with the utmost discretion.
