The two-year-old boy who was abducted on Sunday afternoon in Marseille has been found safe and sound in a hotel in Valence (Drôme) with the man who abducted him, the Marseille public prosecutor told AFP.
Little Osnachi “ is fine ” according to Xavier Tarabeux, the public prosecutor, who added that the child abduction alert had been lifted and that the little boy was to undergo medical examinations. The perpetrator of the abduction, who has a criminal record, has been taken into police custody.
“It was the hotel’s night porter who saw the child abduction alert on the telly and called the police.”, explained Mr Tarabeux. The prosecutor had decided, about two hours earlier, to release a “ kidnapping alert ”following the child’s disappearance with an unknown man.
Little Osnachi was abducted at around 12.40 pm whilst his mother was in an evangelical prayer hall on the Canebière in Marseille, by a white man approximately 1.80 metres tall. Investigators later spotted the man and the child on CCTV footage at Saint-Charles station.
The plan “ Kidnapping alert ” is a system for issuing immediate, mass alerts, deployed to assist in the search for a child believed to have been abducted. It is largely based on the plan “Amber Alert”, established in Texas in 1996, following the abduction and murder of little Amber Hagerman.
