According to an article by our colleagues at the Dauphiné Libéré, a crew from the Miramas emergency services centre, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, was pelted with projectiles in the early hours of Saturday 11 May, around midnight, whilst responding to an incident on a public road. "A firefighter had to be admitted to hospital for an eye examination after a projectile struck one of the vehicle’s windows", the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) states in a press release. "Fortunately, (…) no eye injuries were observed."
A complaint was lodged this Saturday at the Istres police station, "because this attack could have had tragic consequences". "The exceptional force with which the projectile was fired clearly demonstrates the intention to injure our firefighters, who were the victims of a genuine ambush", writes the SDIS.
"From 2018 onwards, in response to the rise in the number and severity of malicious acts against firefighters in the Bouches-du-Rhône and elsewhere, the public authority decided to fit protective film to a number of its vehicles. Vehicles at the Miramas fire station are fitted with this film.".
