The incident took place last Friday in Wisconsin, in the United States. Whilst the emergency services -police and fire service- They are called out to a man in distress in a flat; the door is locked, so they carry out a "door opening".
After opening the door, the man fired several shots from his gun. During the exchange of fire, a firefighter was seriously injured, whilst a police officer sustained minor injuries. The firefighter, Mitchell F. Lundgaarda, died of his injuries a few hours later in hospital.
He was married and the father of three young children. He had joined the Wisconsin Fire Department in March 2005. The killer was shot dead by the police.
