The Vienne fire brigade’s fire engine (VSAV) was travelling along the RD 62 between Neuville-de-Poitou and Vouillé. They were on their way to the scene of a collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a light vehicle. A car ahead of them on the road began to make a U-turn, and they were unable to stop in time. Their fire engine rolled over.
Three firefighters sustained minor injuries and were in shock; they were taken to Poitiers Hospital. In the car, the driver and his passenger – both in their eighties – were seriously injured and were also taken to hospital.
The fire and rescue service explained on Twitter that the firefighters quickly got out of their lorry to come to the aid of the two seriously injured people.
