Decree No. 2019-468 of 16 May 2019 amending Decree No. 2017-1155 of 10 July 2017 concerning the Fire Service Medal of Honour, grants one year of active service to firefighters who have completed the full youth firefighter training programme.

But to be granted this extra year, the former JSP will have to must hold a JSP certificate.

>> After the seventh paragraph of Article 3 of the aforementioned Decree of 10 July 2017, the following paragraph is inserted:
“Holders of the national junior firefighter certificate are entitled to a one-year credit when calculating their length of service.”

Firefighters who hold the JSP certificate will therefore receive their medal of honour one year before their colleagues who have not been JSPs.
For example, they will receive the bronze medal after 9 years of service in the SPV or SPP, compared with 10 years for those who do not have it.

The French fire service is therefore hoping to recruit more young people in the coming years, with the aim of boosting the number of volunteer firefighters nationwide.
