According to Radio Canada, several forest fires have been raging for several days in the Pikangikum region of Alberta. To date, more than 3,000 hectares have been burnt and over 11,000 people have been evacuated. Pikangikum, Big Trout Lake, Sandy Lake and Muskrat Dam are also without internet access.
Bell Canada is unable to send technicians at the moment, as the damage is in the middle of the fire.
The flames are now just 2 km east of the community, which is situated about 500 km north of Thunder Bay, in north-western Ontario.
Twelve fire crews and two CL-415 water-bombing aircraft are hard at work trying to bring the fire threatening the community under control.
Furthermore, the federal government will deploy military personnel and aircraft to support staff on the ground, the Minister for Public Security said.
