A police officer has committed suicide with his service weapon on Sunday evening in Fougères, in Ille-et-Vilaine, according to the Rennes public prosecutor’s office
The soldier’s body was found by a relative in his service accommodation. The emergency services, who attended the scene with an ambulance and a paramedic, were unable to resuscitate him.
Aged 47 and the father of four children, he was on duty with the motorised unit of the Fougères departmental road safety squadron.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, which has ordered a post-mortem, the incident “appears, at this stage, to be linked to a private matter”.
An investigation has been launched and entrusted to the Rennes Gendarmerie’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
