A major fire has been reported on the hills above Nizas; fuelled by a southerly wind, the fire is spreading through the scrubland. The fire is located on the hills above Nizas, at a place known as Chemin de Coste. Around twenty firefighters are expected at the scene.
According to Midi Libre, the flames – which are bordered by vineyards acting as firebreaks – are reported to have already destroyed one hectare of vegetation. Firefighters have positioned themselves to protect an estate on which there is a large kennel. The owners of the estate are prepared to evacuate their hunting dogs to safety. Further firefighters are expected to arrive as reinforcements.
The fire has now been put out; 4 to 5 hectares have been burnt.
