Seven trade unions representing professional firefighters are calling for a strike from 26 June to 31 August.

In a letter sent to the Minister of the Interior, the trade unions have criticised the government’s “refusal to engage in social dialogue” and its “harmful policies and plans”.

They want their voices to be heard in the face of the lack of resources available to them.

An increase in the fire service allowance is also one of their demands, but it is not the only one.

According to the independent trade union SPP-PATS, “the public emergency services are in a dire state. We want to alert the French public … We must be given the resources to carry out our duties … We are taking on more and more tasks that fall outside our remit, due to the failings of government departments”.

Trade unions are also condemning the rise in attacks during operations.
