Today’s maximum temperatures have not yet been reached and may still rise slightly as Thursday draws to a close. Météo France has just issued a red alert for four departments, including Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, Gard and Hérault.
At the hottest point of the day on Thursday 27 June, temperatures will exceed 36°C to 40°C in the departments under a red alert, except in coastal areas where they will remain around 32°C to 35°C. In the inland areas of the Gard, Vaucluse and the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône, temperatures are reaching around 39 to 41°C, and locally 42°C.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, temperatures will drop to around 19°C to 22°C at their coolest in inland areas, but will remain around 22°C to 25°C along the coast.
On Friday, maximum temperatures will be 2°C to 5°C higher than on Thursday. They are generally between 41°C and 44°C in the interior of the Hérault, the Gard and the Vaucluse, as well as in the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône.
Locally, they may exceed 45°C, a temperature never before recorded in mainland France. Along the coast and in the southern half of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, maximum temperatures will range from 36°C to 40°C.
