The Hérault fire service is going through a particularly difficult period. For several days now, they have been facing a high risk of wildfires in the Fontes area, a small town in the Hérault.
During the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, firefighters had to battle a fierce bush fire. Two hectares were destroyed, but a campsite was spared thanks to the protective measures put in place by the firefighters.
An officer "deliberately rammed"
According to our information, an officer from the barracks in Paulhan – a neighbouring town – was "deliberately rammed" by a hit-and-run driver.
"He has suffered several bruises, pain in his pelvis and cuts to his face", reports Lieutenant-Colonel Jérôme Bonnafoux of SDIS 34, before adding that the firefighter was taken to hospital. Inspector-General Éric Flores, departmental director of SDIS 34, immediately went to the victim’s bedside.
A complaint is to be lodged
According to our information, a complaint is to be lodged with the National Gendarmerie as early as this Wednesday morning, with a view to identifying the person responsible. The cause of these fires is "highly suspicious" a firefighter commented.
