NEWS ALERT. A fire service ambulance that was transporting a casualty to hospital on Sunday in Morbihan was violently struck.
The ambulance was heading for Ploërmel Hospital, with three firefighters in the front and the doctor and a nurse in the back. The ambulance was hit violently at a junction in the village of Augan.
Seven injured and nine people involved
The SMUR doctor was very seriously injured and was rushed to Pontchaillou University Hospital in Rennes as a top priority. The nurse, who was also seriously injured, was taken there by the Civil Protection helicopter, the Dragon 56.
Six people, including the three firefighters, were taken to Ploërmel Hospital as relatively non-urgent cases. The driver of the light vehicle involved was unharmed. The Ploërmel gendarmerie is leading the investigation.
