Hérault: firefighter arrested following a spate of fires

A non-commissioned officer with the volunteer fire brigade, based at the fire and rescue station in Florensac, near Béziers in theHérault, was arrested and taken into police custody by officers from the Pézenas gendarmerie company as part of an investigation into a series of arson attacks.

"This police custody procedure will enable us to gather and clarify the facts surrounding these fires and to verify the various aspects of the investigation" specifies that the SDIS 34 in a press release. The defendant will be brought before the investigating judge in charge of the case, with a view to possibly being charged or remanded in custody.

The man, a firefighter and ASVP, has been suspended from his duties

The man is currently subject to precautionary suspension proceedings. The department’s president, Kléber Mesquina, and the Comptroller-General Éric Florès, director of SDIS 34, condemn "condemns such actions in the strongest possible terms" and state that, should the allegations prove to be true, "the holding of a disciplinary hearing involving proceedings for expulsion". This 50-year-old volunteer is a public highway officer (ASVP) with the Agde municipal police.
