A fire has been reported in Villerouge la Crémade, a hamlet in the municipality of Fabrezan, in the Aude department (11). For your safety, please avoid the area.

4.00 pm - The latest figures show that 220 hectares have been burnt.

3.30 pm - A new update from the Aude prefecture reports that 130 hectares have been burnt, with more than 250 firefighters deployed, along with 4 Canadair aircraft and 1 Dash 8. The fire is still burning.

2.00 pm - A new assessment puts the area burnt at 100 hectares. Firefighting operations are still under way.

12.50 pm - No fewer than 200 firefighters are actively battling this fire, which has already destroyed more than 30 hectares of vegetation.

12.30 pm - Firefighters from SDIS 66 have been called in as reinforcements. At least one forest fire response team is reportedly already on its way.

11.41 am - Winds in the area are moderate, which is helping the fire to spread. Winds are averaging 30 km/h, with gusts of up to 65 km/h. The temperature is 29°C. The fire broke out in an area classified by Météo France as ‘very high’ risk for forest fires.

11.32 am - Two water-bombing aircraft from the Civil Protection Service are heading to the scene.

11.15 am - Several witnesses have reported seeing a huge amount of smoke.
