Three soldiers from the Army’s 19th Engineer Regiment have died from poisoning during an operation to combat illegal gold mining in French Guiana (973); several other soldiers who have been poisoned are in a critical condition.
The emergency plan has been activated by the prefecture; the health authorities fear there may be a large number of casualties.
