Three years ago, Fanny Simon, then aged 19 and a volunteer firefighter in the Doubs, was on her way to an emergency call-out with five of her colleagues. The driver of the lorry, who was drunk at the time, lost control and crashed violently into a low wall.
Fanny was seriously injured in the collision. She suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite numerous attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead by the ambulance service doctor at the scene of the accident.
The driver was drunk
The driver, who was 24 at the time of the incident, had a blood alcohol level of 1.6g. Last Thursday, he was sentenced in Montbéliard to three years’ imprisonment, two of which were suspended.
The defendant was also ordered to be barred from working as a firefighter for three years. Finally, his driving licence has been revoked. He will not be able to retake his driving test for a year.
