Following the terrible tragedy that occurred late this afternoon in the commune of Générac in the Gard, where the Tracker 22 crashed with its pilot on board, the fire has now been brought under control this evening. It will have ravaged nearly 300 hectares by Friday.
However, the fire that broke out in Vauvert and spread to Beauvoisin and the village of Franquevaux is still burning. It has so far destroyed nearly 115 hectares.
Update at 10.30 pm from the Gard Prefecture:
Générac: fire brought under control; 315 hectares affected, 341 firefighters and 93 vehicles deployed
Vauvert: fire not yet brought under control; 170 hectares affected; 179 firefighters and 49 vehicles deployed
Montignargues: fire brought under control, 11 hectares, 15 firefighters and 4 vehicles deployed
The fire has now spread across 495 hectares, and 535 firefighters, 200 gendarmes and 146 vehicles are still deployed on the ground.
