Firefighters from the Rhône Departmental and Metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service (SDMIS 69) recently tested the ‘fire-fighting grenade’. Having gained popularity following widespread circulation on social media, this invention was tested at the request of the Sud Solidaires trade union within the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT).
Unfortunately, following testing, this invention was deemed ineffective by the Lyon and Rhône Fire Service management. This decision clearly does not sit well with the union – and with good reason: convinced of the effectiveness of this fire-extinguishing grenade, the union announced on Facebook on Monday that it had resubmitted its request.
“We requested, via the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT), a test of fire-extinguishing balls, designed to delay the extinguishing process during car and bin fires, in order to ensure the safety of emergency personnel. Unfortunately, the SDMIS failed to make use of this tool and deemed the equipment ineffective. We’ll let you judge the difference for yourselves with this video.” they clarified, before adding: “In light of this, we have therefore reiterated our request for a test, as your (SDMIS 69 staff, Editor’s note) "Security must not be undermined by the actions of certain individuals".
